How will megatrends shape the next decade?

The problem of slow economic growth and weak productivity, globally, will be a key trend for the next decade. One reason for this is the negative effect of an ageing population. However, AI has the potential to offset some of these demographic headwinds. AI is here to stay, and sectors will gradually learn how they can benefit from developments in this technology, the benefits of which so far seem intangible. Its impact on long-term GDP growth and productivity is unclear and will depend on many factors, but could be significant.

The transition to a regenerative economy will continue to impact markets in the next decade and the investment opportunity depends on how governments, companies and investors approach this problem. With significant capital spending expected to be directed from governments into meeting some of their sustainability goals, we believe areas such as power generation, construction, agriculture and transport, among many others, are going to be impacted by new technologies in the coming year. This could present investment opportunities.
